The kiss - Pablo Picasso, 1925.
París, Musée National Picasso
This painting was created by the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso in 1925 in Juan-les-Pins, France.
Picasso is most known for his introduction of cubism.
However, after the First
World War, Picasso moved away from the art of cubism. By 1925 he was
attracted to the surrealist movement.
In these
years, Picasso didn´t doubt when it comes to paint the human figure with
complete liberty.
We can
always recognize the figures in spite of the loss of shape, although with
difficulty.
This
painting shows a passionate hug between a man and a woman. In other words, it represents the fusion of two beings. We can recognize
them with a lot of problems.
The man is
on the left side embracing the woman, who throws her head back. An only mouth joins
them together. He lifts her from the floor.
The
painting has a sexual sense. Noses remind male sex and the mouth reminds female
sex.
There are violence and dynamism in this painting. Not only in the composition, but in the colors used.
This violence and this dynamism were unknown in Picasso´s paintings up to then.
I have chosen this painting due to the fact that the way he is able to make us see a couple in the middle of this shapes and colors fascinates me.
